Ex-Graphic designer turned photographer, Chicago based photographer Francois Robert, born in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, is renowned worldwide for his commercial work. His fine-art photography is equally provocative and covers a wide range of subjects from evocative Polaroid transfer prints, to candid street and travel photographs, and still-lifes. Some of Robert’s clients include Crate & Barrel, Coca-Cola, Chicago Board of Trade, BP, Sappi Paper, Bentley Prince Street, Herman Miller, IBM, Unison Home and Yale Medical School. Among Robert’s publications are GRAPHIS (article) 1979, BEFORE AND AFTER (book) 1981, A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AMERICA (1986), THE COLOR OF FASHION (1992), COMMUNICATION ARTS (article) 1988 and GRAPHIS 335, Fall 2001. His first FACE TO FACE book which sold out in Europe and the U.S. has been followed by FACES (which sold over 25,000 copies), published by Chronicle Books. His recent books include CROSSES, published by Graphis and “STOP THE VIOLENCE”. He is working on 3 upcoming books: SKULLS from the collection of the Field Museum Chicago, INTERRUPTED LANDSCAPES about billboards across the United States, LEFT BEHIND about all the objects left in the desert by the undocumented migrants. Received best of fine art from the Lucie Awards in 2008 out of 18,000 entries for his series: “Stop the Violence”
